FocalPoint S-GNSS

S-GNSS® is a software product that enables GNSS receivers to reject unwanted signals and noise - increasing accuracy, sensitivity and security.

S-GNSS-enabled receivers are the only GNSS receivers capable of determining the angle of arrival of satellite signals with software signal processing alone, enabling them to meet three of the most pressing needs in the modern navigation industry:

  • Increased sensitivity and accuracy in urban environments
  • Comprehensive multipath mitigation
  • Increased position integrity with spoofer rejection

S-GNSS enables the next generation of location-dependent products and services for industries including:

Automotive

  • Lane-level absolute position in urban areas for ADAS systems, autonomous vehicles and driver navigation systems.

Smartphones

  • Ubiquitous metre-level accuracy smartphone localisation without databases or infrastructure for pedestrian navigation, ride-share apps and food delivery services.

Wearables

  • Ubiquitous metre-level accuracy smartphone localisation without databases or infrastructure for pedestrian navigation, ride-share apps and food delivery services.

Security and Safety

  • Increased measurement and positioning integrity
  • Improved LBS authentication procedures for financial transactions
  • Improved geofencing
  • E-911 and E-112 meter-level accuracy localisation of emergency calls
  • Spoofing detection and rejection
  • Attenuation of Jamming signals

How S-GNSS works

S-GNSS® describes a GNSS receiver powered by FocalPoint Supercorrelation™ digital signal processing technology integrated into the receiver.

S-GNSS uses a new form of processing known as Supercorrelation which can recognise and reject multipath, reflected and spoofed signals. Supercorrelation makes use of the receiver’s motion to enhance accuracy, sensitivity and integrity, achieving up to 10x performance improvement in urban environments.

Supercorrelation™ is the only software-based GNSS technology capable of determining the arrival angle of signals, enabling line-of-sight determination and the removal of reflected and non-line-of-sight signals from the positioning solution.

It combines sensor fusion, machine learning and signal processing.

How to get S-GNSS

For OEMs and Chipset manufacturers, S-GNSS is available as a licensable upgrade to any GNSS device as source code or as a software binary, with flexible deployment options depending upon the customer requirement.

We partner with chipset manufacturers and module manufacturers to enable S-GNSS on specific systems and products. Please contact our sales team for more information.

For developers, the S-GNSS API may be used with compliant systems - click here for more info.

Current availability

FocalPoint have licensing deals with GNSS chipset partners such as u-blox.

u-blox CEO Thomas Seiler commented: “The addition of Supercorrelation technology into our latest GNSS platforms is part of our continuing focus on low power consumption, higher accuracy and security for automotive, industrial, and wearable GNSS applications”.
